Mr. Choob Ratana, Director of the Department of Tourism Development Planning, held a technical meeting with Ms. Adjara DIOUF, Coordinator of the OIF for the Asia-Pacific region, and her team to discuss cooperation to promote sustainable tourism and the development of green destinations in Cambodia. The meeting reviewed the preparation of the regional workshop on “Launching the Sustainable Tourism Development Project (Destination Eco-Talent)” of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), which will be held from March 26 to 28, 2025 in Siem Reap, under the chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Thok Sokhom, Secretary of State and a high representative of His Excellency Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism. With the launch of the above project, OIF also supports sustainable tourism development with 6 partners, including the Ministry of Tourism, the Paul Dubrol School of Hotel and Tourism, the School of Hotel Management, the School of Restaurant Management, the Cambodian Spoon Association, the Siem Reap Women Entrepreneurs Development Association, and the Royal University of Law and Economic Sciences. In addition to considering this tourism development, it is worth noting that in 2024, Cambodia’s tourism sector received approximately 6.7 million international tourists, an increase of 22.9 percent compared to 2023.

On March 26, 2025, a regional workshop was held to announce the launch of the Sustainable Tourism Destination Development Project (Destinations Eco-Talent-DET) in Siem Reap. The event was led by His Excellency Thok Sokhom, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, alongside Mr. Ung Kim Leang, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap, and Mr. Edgar DOERIG from the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). Approximately 90 stakeholders, including experts from Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, as well as representatives from various tourism organizations and vocational training schools, attended the workshop.
