H.E. Minister HUOT Hak: “We call on all relevant stakeholders to join efforts in creating a future for tourism that is green, sustainable, environmentally responsible, and increasingly resilient for the Kingdom of Cambodia and the entire region.”
Siem Reap Province: H.E. Mr. HUOT Hak, Minister of Tourism, presided over the Opening Ceremony of the Regional Workshop on Promoting Green and Sustainable Tourism, organized to enhance the capacity of stakeholders in the tourism sector and to advance the development of tourism that is green, sustainable, environmentally responsible, and accountable.
The meaningful event was attended by Mr. EDGAR DOERIG, Representative of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) for the Asia-Pacific region; H.E. Mr. DY Rado, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province, representing H.E. Mr. PRAK Sophorn, Governor of Siem Reap Provincial Administration; senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism and other relevant institutions; distinguished national and international guest speakers; private sector representatives; development partners; national and international organizations; and approximately 250 participants from across the region.
Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Minister noted that the workshop brings together representatives from government, private sector, national and international organizations, and experts, providing an excellent platform for sharing knowledge, best practices, and international experiences. The workshop also offers participants an opportunity to learn about sustainable tourism destination standards issued by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), aimed at improving and managing tourism destinations to promote Cambodia as a responsible, attractive, competitive, and resilient destination.
H.E. Minister further stated that the workshop enables participants to gain insights into green tourism standards and sustainable tourism development, which will support Cambodia in achieving international recognition for destination quality. This includes evaluation by international bodies regarding sustainable tourism development, helping Cambodia attract visitors from key markets such as Europe, Australia, and the Americas, while promoting long-haul flights supported by the potential of the international standard 4F Techo International Airport.
Moreover, H.E. Minister emphasized that the regional workshop provides essential inputs for formulating national and sub-national tourism policies and development plans, through the integration of key indicators and standards for “Green Tourism Destinations” and “Sustainable Tourism Development”, preparing Cambodia comprehensively for future international assessments.
